About BRES

Who is The Baton Rouge Epicurean Society?
The Baton Rouge Epicurean Society (BRES) has been formed by local food, beverage and hospitality professionals and is a 501c3 non-profit organization.

Epicurus was a Greek philosopher (307 BC) who defined philosophy as the art of making life blissful, and that the greatest good was to seek modest pleasures such as tranquility and freedom from fear through knowledge. An Epicure is defined as a person devoted to refined sensuous enjoyment, especially through good food, drink and art.

The Baton Rouge Epicurean Society non-profit organization has four goals:

  1. Raise local awareness of childhood health and nutrition issues in our community.
  2. Help young students in our area learn about community involvement, cultural preservation and leadership.
  3. Award scholarship/endowment funds to local applicants interested in studying in the fields of the Epicurean arts at local accredited colleges and institutions. These students will then enter the local community as professionals in their field.
  4. Annually honor an Epicure from the Greater Baton Rouge area with the Grace “Mama” Marino Lifetime Achievement Award who has dedicated their lives to serving our community.

Please view our 2010 charitable events and make plans to attend today!

Please remember, proceeds will benefit local childhood health & nutrition programs and epicurean scholarships to local accredited individuals & institutions.
