Epicurus was a Greek philosopher (307 BC) who defined philosophy as the art of making life blissful, and that the greatest good was to seek modest pleasures such as tranquility and freedom from fear through knowledge. An Epicure is defined as a person devoted to refined sensuous enjoyment, especially through good food, drink and art. The Baton Rouge Epicurean Society would like to introduce itself to the Baton Rouge community. BRES has been formed by local food, beverage and hospitality professionals and is a 501c3 non-profit organization. PurposeThe BRES non-profit organization has four goals: - Raise local awareness of childhood health and nutrition issues in our community.
- Help young students in our area learn about community involvement, cultural preservation, and leadership.
Award scholarship funds to local applicants interested in studying in the fields of the Epicurean arts at local accredited colleges and institutions. These students will then enter the local community as professionals in their field. These Epicurean scholarships will be named the “BRES Grace “Mama” Marino Scholarship Fund.” Annually honor an Epicure from the Greater Baton Rouge area who has dedicated their lives to serving our community.
The Baton Rouge Epicurean Society has two events scheduled for 2008. Please view these worthy charitable events and make plans to attend today! Please remember, proceeds will benefit local childhood health & nutrition programs and epicurean scholarships to local accredited individuals & institutions. |
